I was deeply entrenched and committed to my insurance based practice, which initially had worked great for me. Then came the cuts and additional paperwork requirements from the insurance companies and EMR( electronic medical records) …and my small group practice started to fall apart at the seams with none of the partners making salary since January, 2016, struggling to keep the overhead going.
This came as a wake up call for me. I had already started practicing functional medicine, using the FPC model for my wellness center. I was not doing justice to my functional medicine business by working two jobs, literally, as I was not able to focus on my business and my passion.
I decided to quit my traditional medical practice and move full time to my wellness center.
My patients were distraught when they learnt that I was not going to accept insurance at my new practice. They pleaded me to accept insurance and I almost succumbed to the pressure.
BUT after attending the last quarterly in August, with the advice from colleagues and friends at FPC, I decided to go to a fully cash based model.
I had the best month (in a year and a half) in August. Did well in September and am gearing for another great month in October.
No regrets. It’s not been easy and I work hard every day but I am doing what I love and now have free weekends and Fridays are half days compared to my crazy schedule with two practices and three kids!
